How do I set up Mixpanel the right way?

An end-to-end Mixpanel setup has five steps :

**1. Create an Event Tracking implementation Spec.** Document all user interactions (events) you need to track and the data (properties) to send with each one. Make sure to include User profile properties and Super properties for deeper analysis .

**2. Insert code and verify data flow.** Have your developer follow the tracking plan and insert code into your product. Then fire events from your product, check Mixpanel, and confirm all events and properties are flowing correctly. If not, have the developer fix them .

**3. Create an analytics strategy.** Use a framework like the AAARRR funnel to build a story about how users are using your product. Define a north star metric for each piece of the funnel and supporting KPIs .

**4. Build dashboards on Mixpanel.** Structure them to tell a complete story, make them easy to read, and keep them dynamic with filtering options. Each dashboard should answer specific questions about your product .

**5. Run deeper analysis.** Develop hypotheses from your dashboards, run A/B tests to understand the "why," make product changes, and measure impact on your north star metric. Use analytics as an insight tool, not just an information tool .
