Ask Ansh

What are super properties and when should I use them?

Super properties are attributes you set once in Mixpanel, and they automatically attach to every subsequent event without you having to specify them each time. Unlike profile properties, which overwrite previous values and don't change past events, super properties persist across all future events while leaving historical data untouched.

You should use super properties for attributes that don't change frequently, like user type, subscription level, or email. They're particularly valuable when you need to know what state a user was in when they performed a specific action-for example, "What plan was a user on when they posted their fifth Instagram post?" Super properties solve this perfectly because if a user upgrades from a free plan to premium, the super property updates for all new events going forward, but previous events keep the original value attached.
